Art Deco and Art Nouveau Luxury Bed and Breakfast in The Somme
Le Macassar offers luxury bed and breakfast in an art deco mansion on the main square of the town of Corbie, Northern France. Set in a large formal courtyard garden, the large interconnecting reception rooms have high ceilings, large windows and fine finishes. The original 1930’s interiors are a perfect backdrop for the owners’ collection of art and antiques which are cleverly juxtaposed with stylish modern furnishings. The result is an elegant yet comfortable atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy your stay.
The five large en-suite rooms and suites are all beautifully appointed with fine furnishings, art works and marble fireplaces. The high quality beds, pillows and duvets ensure a comfortable nights sleep, while the bathrooms are luxurious, many with whirlpool tubs.
Each room is individual. The Art Deco suite has a 1920’s decadence with its original ash and birds-eye maple furniture, separate living room with its carved stone fireplace and its huge black marble bathroom with an elaborate stained glass window. Another room has a classic French elegance with original wood panelling, hand-woven rugs over waxed floorboards and a marble fireplace, all set off by luxurious fabrics and an indulgent en-suite granite shower.
Guests are free to use the entire house and can, on a warm summer evening, relax in the garden with a glass of wine

Out and About
Corbie lies between the Somme and Ancre rivers. The town grew up around the 7th century Benedictine abbey and the museum is mainly dedicated its history, containing Carolingian pottery, coins and manuscripts. The abbey church of St-Pierre contains treasures including an early Byzantine painting of the face of Jesus and a fragment of the True Cross acquired in 1242 after the first crusade.Amiens, the ancient capital of Picardy, stands on the south bank of the River Somme and is 15 mins away. After suffering great destruction in the last two wars, the town has since been rebuilt and is now a modern, spacious and thriving place with splendid boulevards, streets and shops as well as a lovely canal district. It also has the great Cathedral Nôtre-Dame, a wonderful Gothic building and the largest of its kind.
Paris and Calais are only 1½ hours by car, and Brussels 2 ½ hours. France is an ideal destination for fine wines and gourmet food, as well as its culture, art, and history. Visit market towns, churches and the theatre, or enjoy shopping, French food and relaxing on the beach.
